Coaxial cable is a type of cable that is commonly used by cable operators. This is the type of cable needed in order to connect to the wall plug in your wall.
What is it?
QAM is a digital television standard using Quadrature Amplitude Modulation. It is the format by which digital cable channels are encoded and transmitted via cable television providers.
Is your TV capable?
Manuals can be found on the manufacturer's web site or by searching Google for the TV model number and manufacturer's name. The best way to check if your digital TV's tuner is QAM capable, is to connect your TV and use your remote control to manually tune to a few digital channels.
Use your television remote control to bring up your system menu. Search the menu for an option to scan for digital antennas. If your television is able to scan for a digital antenna signal, a QAM tuner is on your television. Confirm Auto Scan on your TV has “Cable” not “Air” selected. Ensure there is no “splitter” connected. A splitter is a device used to split a cable signal between two or more devices, providing two coaxial cables to connect those devices. You can find guides for this by searching your TV model and “scan for cable signal” on Google.
If your TV is not QAM capable, you will need to purchase a “QAM Tuner” (Cox brand QAM Tuner is NOT Compatible).
Where can you get one?
We recommend buying the QAM Tuner from the Lopes Shop. However, we understand that you may find it elsewhere, and want to provide you with the information necessary to get one. As mentioned before, the Cox brand QAM Tuner is not compatible. Other than this, there are no known restrictions. Again, the QAM Tuner in the Lopes Shop is known to work with our network.
Otherwise, you can buy one from any technology provider that carries them.
