This article will provide instructions on the various ways to connect to the Cisco VPN.
Connecting to the VPN
- Locate Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client in your start menu or in the bottom right corner of the taskbar.
- Make sure the drop-down box shows the server address vpn.gcu.edu (if not, you are able to type it into the box). Then hit Connect

- Type in your current username and password and then select OK or hit Enter.
- Username: First.LastName
- Password: Computer Login Password

- You will then be prompted to sign in with your employee email. If you are a GCU employee, please use your GCU email. If you are a GCE employee, use your GCE email.
- Note: If you have already connected to the VPN on this machine, you will just need to select the email displayed instead of typing it.

- You will then need to enter your computer login password. Hit Sign In.

- If you have already setup MFA authentication, please proceed to Connecting to VPN with MFA Already Setup.
- If you have not setup MFA and receive the below message proceed to the section with the method, you would like to use to register with.
Connecting to VPN with MFA Already Setup
- You will need to Authenticate with MFA to continue logging in.
- If using Microsoft Authenticator App, you will receive this screen and then get a notification on the App on your phone to hit Approve or receive a code to enter on your computer.

- If using SMS messaging option, you will receive a 6-digit code to your phone and will need to enter the code and hit Verify.


- If you select the Call option, you will receive a call to your phone. Hit the pound key (#) on your phone to allow sign in.


- You should now be successfully connect to the VPN.

- If you have not registered for MFA and receive the below prompt when attempting to connect to the VPN, you will need to register either using SMS Text Message, Phone Call, or the Microsoft Authenticator App. Please see below for instructions.

Connecting to the VPN Using SMS Text Message or Phone Call
- If you received the "More information required" window when attempting to connect to the VPN, we will need to setup MFA in order to proceed. Hit Next.

- You will be prompted with the below window. To setup with SMS texting or Calling please select "I want to set up a different method".

- Choose the Phone Method and hit Confirm.


- Select the Country if not already prefilled and enter your phone number below it. Select either Text me a code or Call me depending on what method you would like to use. Then hit Next.
- If you selected Text, you will receive a 6-digit code. Please enter the code in the "Enter Code" field and hit Next.

- If you selected Call me, you should receive a call. Hit the pound key (#) on your phone to allow sign in.

Note: You may be prompted to enter the characters shown in the field below before receiving the phone call, then hit Next.

- You should then be successfully registered. Hit Next to continue. Then hit Done.


- You should now be successfully connected to the VPN.

Connecting to the VPN Using the Microsoft Authenticator App
- If you received the More information required when attempting to connect to the VPN, we will need to setup MFA in order to proceed. Hit Next.

- You will be prompted with the below window. To setup with the Microsoft Authenticator app hit Next.
- On your phone download the Microsoft Authenticator App by going into the App Store or Play Store. Once the app is downloaded open the app and select Scan QR Code.

- On your computer you will see the QR code to scan. Scan the code with your phone, hit Next.

- Once the QR code is scanned you will be prompted with the below screen on your computer with two digit number.

- On your phone the Microsoft Authenticator app you'll receive the below notification to enter the two digit number from your computer into the app then click Yes.

- You will receive the below screen on your computer once the authentication was successful. Hit Next.

- You are now successfully registered with the Aunthentication App. Hit Done.

- You should now be successfully connected to the VPN.
