How to use Cisco Jabber Phone

  1. When using Cisco Jabber ensure you are connected to the corporate network by either connecting to WGCUSECURE or hardwiring to your docking stating while on campus or connecting to VPN when working from home.
  2. Ensure USB Headset is connected before launching.
  3. Launch Jabber from desktop or start menu shortcut.
  4. Log in using Windows Credentials
    • Username: Firstname.lastname
    • Password: Computer password

       
  5. If you receive the below message re-enter your password under Accounts. If your Calls tab is missing, that is also an indication you need to sign in.

  6. Under General tab select "Start Cisco Jabber when my computer starts" then hit Apply>Okay
    • **We do not recommend this setting for UAC's or UDC's**

Notifications Settings

  1. Under the Notifications tab, ensure both boxes are checked.

Exit Jabber

  1. To fully close the Jabber application, select the gear icon on the top right, then click Exit. Clicking only the X will minimize Jabber.

Audio

Once signed in, update Jabber's audio settings. Keep in mind these revert to default if Jabber has been reset but do save when Jabber is closed.

  1. Select the Settings gear at the top right of Jabber
  2. Select the Settings option

     
  3. Navigate to the Audio Tab, then scroll to the bottom and select Advanced.

     
  4. Using the arrows under each section, move the preferred audio option to the top of each list to prioritize for audio.
    • Ringer & Alerts
      • If Plantronics is selected, calls will ring inside your headset
      • If Realtek is selected, calls will ring out of computer speakers
      • If All devices are selected, calls will ring out of all devices
    • Speaker & Microphone
      • Always have headset selected
  5. Select Apply then OK. Please keep in mind you can always adjust your sound preference as needed.
  6. From the main audio page you can test the audio volume settings and increase or decrease as needed.

Playback Settings

  1. Navigate to the Start menu or  icon in the lower left-hand corner of your screen and search "Control Panel", then click on Sound.
  2. Under Playback and Recording tab ensure Plantronics is set to Default Communications Device.

Placing Calls

  1. Through the keypad by selecting the keypad option highlighted below. For internal calls, you can also dial by typing a person's name into the search field and selecting the call option.

     
  2. After selecting the call button or enter, the call will begin, and a separate call window will open.

     
  3. To end the call, select the red end button or hit the X at the top right of the below window.

     
  4. Select the speaker at the top right if sound settings need to be adjusted while on a call.

     
  5. Other call options can be selected from the ellipsis button, such as hold, transfer, and conference.

Transfer Calls

  1. Calls can only be transferred while on an active call.
  2. Click the ellipsis button, then click Transfer

     
  3. The call will remain active until the new number you will be transferring to is entered. Enter number and hit Enter of click on the Green Receiver icon.

     
  4. Once line is ringing select Transfer, call will then be transferred, and the call will end on your end.

Conference Calls

  1. While on an active call, click the ellipsis button, then click Conference.
  2. Participants can be added to the call by entering the phone number in the search box on the right-hand side and hit Enter to dial out.

     
  3. A green Join option will appear select the option to conference the call in, then hit Join.

     
  4. To remove participants or yourself from the conference call, right click on the desired number, then select Remove.

Forwarding Calls in Jabber

  1. To forward calls in Jabber, click the green computer screen at the bottom right of Jabber.
  2. Under Forward Calls select the dropdown arrow and select your Mobile number, New Number or Voicemail.

    • If New Number was selected, enter phone number and click Forward. Please note, it may add an 8 or an 81 in front of the number, this is normal.

  3. When you see the below message, call forwarding is active.
